Neli: "We started as being ?The
Roses? a year ago when our friend Violeta Jeliazkova asked us to perform
a Bulgaria dance for a concert dedicated to the Bulgarian Independence
Day on March 3rd. That wasn?t problem for us because the dance is in
our heart, and in fact my sister is a dance choreographer.
In 1998 she graduated the Choreography Dance School in Bulgaria, Sofia
which is the only one in the nation. I was dancing Bulgarian folk as
a little girl, and I love dancing, so I said immediately ? Let?s do
it?.
We had a few weeks and our big desire and on March 3rd, 2001 was our
first performance. Of course before that we had to figure out a name
of our group (if I can say it group). We wanted to be something Bulgarian
and beautiful, something that could present our country and....we chose
The Roses."
Marieta: "Since our first concert we have had
several performance in USA and Canada. Usually we present our dances
in universities, colleges (MIT, Berklee College of Music), on international
festivals, and on many other Bulgarian concerts in Boston. In spite
of our wish, we are not planing to make a dance group right now because
of the busy life we have (I guess that is common for many of us here
in US).
We both, my sister and I, go to college and we also go to work,
so just for now we don?t have that time to work and establish something
for what we'll need a lot of money and a lot of time. However we are
always ready to participate when we are invited. The purpose of ?The
Roses? is to spread the Bulgarian folk dance through these people who
love it, and to those who had never been touch by the beauty and the
power of our folklore. "
